Equipment used when moving piano's
There are two main items of equipment needed to safely move a piano. They are
the "piano trolley", a short, sturdy, 4-wheeled trolley and the "piano skid".
These two items are used seperately or in conjuction with each other depending on the circumstances.
Upright piano's are often moved using the trolley alone when moving over flat, or nearly flat ground. Because of it's short wheel-base
piano trolley's are extremely manoeverable, even when fully loaded.
Grand piano's are almost always moved using the piano skid. The piano is placed, on it's side, onto the skid which has protectors to prevent
scratches to the piano. The piano is also wrapped in protective material before it's put onto the skid.
